Monarch came to us 2 weeks after the mass intake of our “Queens” in December 2024. These cats came to the rescue alongside 18 others who we affectionately called The Queens. They were rescued from a backyard breeder that had more than 100 cats caged for life for the purpose of breeding. These cats never saw the light of day, breathed fresh air, or knew anything other than being used for profit. These breeding females (and a few castrated males) were brought into our care and quarantined together until they were able to be placed in loving foster homes. Each cat has its own unique trauma that they have worked through in order to be ready for adoption. These Queens deserve the world they should have always had and we will ensure they have a spoiled life from here forward. 

Monarch’s past is even more questionable as he wasn’t found for 2 weeks after all 100 cats were removed from the cages and brought to various rescues. We have no idea if he lived in a cage and somehow escaped or was a once stray cat that became an unknown guest in the home. 

Monarch was the most fearful, and took months of time to decompress. In this time he formed strong bonds with all his foster siblings and the resident large dog. It is paramount that Monarch’s new family has other cats or a dog that he can trust and learn from. 

Monarch slowly adjusted to life in a home filled with love, first seeking comfort in his cage, then gaining confidence to play in the cat room, and later exploring the entire house with confidence. He now chooses to lay comfortably on the couch beside his people and not shy away from their touch. 

Monarch’s new family will need to give him time to adjust and learn he is safe. But once this happens you will have a friend for life. 

Please note that due to years of being trapped in ammonia filled cages Monarch may have on and off respiratory flares that can be managed with Lysine.
