Meet Rupaul!
Rupaul the Drag Queen came to the rescue alongside 18 other cats who we affectionately called The Queens. They were rescued from a backyard breeder that had more than 100 cats caged for life for the purpose of breeding. These cats never saw the light of day, breathed fresh air, or knew anything other than being used for profit. These breeding females (and a few castrated males) were brought into our care and quarantined together until they were able to be placed in loving foster homes. Each cat has its own unique trauma that they have worked through in order to be ready for adoption. These Queens deserve the world they should have always had and we will ensure they have a spoiled life from here forward.
On intake, Ru was very sick with a URI and it was assumed he was female as he looked that way and we wouldn’t imagine why an altered male would be caged with breeding females. It was then determined he is a castrated male so his name was changed from Queen Beatrix to Rupaul the Drag Queen.
Ru is an incredibly goofy boy who is sure to bring a smile to his new family's face daily. He is still learning what it’s like to be a cat out of a cage and is becoming more confident by the day. Ru didn’t know how to play, didn’t know what a litter box or cat litter was, and never even drank from a water bowl (they had rodent water bottles). He now loves to play with jingle balls, catnip toys, and strings. He uses the litter box no problem and covers up his business like a good boy before running away with the poop zoomies.
For obvious reasons, Ru doesn’t like to be contained in small spaces, like a cat carrier, however with positive reinforcement (lots of treats) he now goes in willingly for affection. Ru currently lives with 3 other cats including 2 seniors and is very respectful of them. Ru always takes on the submissive role and will roll onto his back and close his eyes when approached. Ru really enjoys playing with our young adult cat and we believe he should go to a home with another kitty friend to show him the ropes. He also lives with a toddler and is becoming more comfortable around her and is now playing with her and they sit on the couch together. We believe that he would do well with children that respect his space.
Ru will most likely always have lingering symptoms of his URI and he will have some discharge around his nose and eyes. With lysine this is managed very well but we assume that from a life without treatment he will always be a little snorty. Ru occasionally sounds like a little dog sniffing when he’s looking for treats or playing with his catnip pouches. Our vet has reassured us that he is not contagious and should pose no long term issues.
Ru is a very petite boy, nearly half the size of my resident cats. He has close-set eyes and fluffy paws. Ru has a kink at the end of his tail, most likely an old injury that never got medical attention. He likes to be brushed and is learning to play with strings and jingle balls. He loves wet food and churu treats and will always come when you open up the treat cupboard.
It was recently discovered that Ru had Cryptorchidism so he underwent exploratory surgery to remove the undescended testicle. Due to this surgery Ru is now sporting a large scar from his sternum to his groin but he is also now a healthy and happy boy who is ready to find his forever family. Ru is now ready to live out the rest of his life happy, loved, and free to lounge in the sunshine and be spoiled with treats and toys. He’s had an incredibly difficult life up until now and he deserves the world.
